About us
Mission, vision
Spacelab’s mission is to connect academic knowledge, research results, and industrial innovation in the field of space research and the space industry.
To this end, we have created a knowledge center where different scientific fields—electronics, engineering, mechatronics, computer science, data security, cyber defense systems, as well as management and law—can collaborate in an integrated manner.
This interdisciplinary approach ensures that university research leads to truly marketable technologies and businesses.
Spacelab is based on the three pillars of education, research, and innovation. At the educational level, our goal is for Óbuda University students to acquire future-oriented skills that will enable them to participate in the international space economy. This is served, for example, by the „New Space Economy” course, the first of its kind in Hungary, which combines technical and economic knowledge to introduce students to the world of new space industry businesses and technologies.
At the research and development level, Spacelab offers an experimental and testing environment for student and research projects, including the development of satellite systems, Earth observation platforms, robotics and rover technologies, as well as space suit ergonomics and data security solutions.
These projects have not only technological value, but also educational and knowledge transfer value, as students can gain experience in a real industrial and research environment.
Values, operating principles
Interdisciplinarity: Space technology is not just an engineering issue – it also involves law, economics, management, and data security – which is why Spacelab provides a framework where different disciplines can work together.
Rapid prototyping and market orientation: We support projects from the idea phase to market application so that university research does not remain merely theoretical but is also put into practice.
International and industrial openness: We actively seek global connections and industrial partners to strengthen the domestic space industry and make it competitive.
Sustainability and responsibility: Space research and business come with responsibility; we believe that space activities must be sustainable and ethical.
Spacelab as a bridge of knowledge and innovation between academia and industry. From university knowledge to industrial innovation
Spacelab is a meeting point for academia, industry, and students. It offers students an inspiring, practice-oriented environment where learning and research become tangible innovation. It provides researchers with the opportunity to pursue new, interdisciplinary research directions, while creating a platform for cooperation for industrial partners, where technological developments and education can be realized in close symbiosis.
This makes Spacelab not only the research center of Óbuda University, but also a key player in the Hungarian space industry, forming a bridge between university knowledge, industrial innovation, and national economic strategy.
